In spite of floods during the week, 36 people braved the weather warnings to attend the final WCCP event of our Ruby Year.

We had a free raffle of 3 bottles of Ruby Port to mark the occasion, which were won by Ann Wedlake, David Segar and Sue King.

Huw Francis led the first session with a selection of lovely Manx dance tunes. Followed by an unusually high number of “shared tunes”, which saw groups tucked in all the nooks and crannies we could find.

After lunch, Doug led another splendid session of pop songs, with parts for all abilities so even the beginners could join in.

This was followed with a selection of tunes from our own collections led by John Lambert.

The Autumn themed Showcase had pieces from five Shared Tunes groups and Party Pieces from four individuals, one duo and one trio. To finish, everyone joined in with the “Ruby Anthem” and “Meadow in May”.

Thanks go to our beginner’s tutors - Alan Dyer (English), Doug Watt (Anglo) and Paul McCann (Duet). To Kate Ellam (for keeping us hydrated). Also to all session and group leaders, and everyone who came along to join in, help out and make the day such fun.

On a personal level. It is exactly seven years ago that Tony Ferrero and I, along with Beryl Whitehead, took on the running of the Ruishton Play Days. So it was fitting that Tony and Allison were able to come along to join us.

I am now stepping away as team leader and would like to say a special “Thank-you” for my gifts, cards and good wishes - and also for singing me a song!

I look forward to joining you again as a player, whilst the new team - John, Doug and Sal - take the play days into the future.
